Jambalaya Park Spray Ground set to open May 15: Gonzales City Council notes

During the April 22 meeting, the Gonzales City Council approved May 15 as the opening date for the Jambalaya Park Spray Ground.

Here is a look at other matters addressed, according to meeting minutes:

  • Members approved a special event request for Casa Maria Mexican Grill to hold a Cinco de Mayo event from 6-10 p.m. May 5.
  • The council approved a special event request for El Paso Mexican Grill to have a Cinco de Mayo event from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. May 5.
  • Members approved a special event for South East Spas to hold a Hot Tub and Swim Spa event in the Tanger mall parking lot May 9-15.
  • The council approved a special request for Tanger mall to hold Food Truck Saturdays from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. June 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.
  • Members approved a special request on behalf of the Travis Manion Foundation to have a 9/11 Heroes Run from 8-10 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Gonzales campus of River Parishes Community College.
  • The council approved a request for the Gonzales Rotary Club to have a Kids in the Park event at Kids Kove Park from 6:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 15.
  • The council declared 27 expired tasers to be surplus for destruction.
  • Proclamations included Child Abuse Prevention Month, Arbor Day and National Lupus Awareness Month.
  • A public hearing to consider millage rates was set for May 28 at 5:30 p.m. at city hall.
  • Public hearings and final votes for the fiscal year 2024-2025 budget were set for May 13 at 5:30 p.m.
